What is a Life Path number?

In numerology, your Life Path number is a single digit (1 to 9) or a master number (11, 22 or 33) drawn entirely from your date of birth. Think of it as the theme of your life: the natural strengths you lead with, the situations you thrive in, and the lesson that keeps coming back around. Of all the numbers in a numerology chart, the Life Path is the one people start with, because it never changes and it colours everything else.

How to calculate your Life Path number

You reduce each part of your birth date to a single digit, then add those together and reduce once more. The one twist: the master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are never reduced, because they carry their own meaning.

  1. Month — reduce it to one digit (December, 12, becomes 1 + 2 = 3).
  2. Day — reduce it the same way (the 26th becomes 2 + 6 = 8).
  3. Year — add all four digits, then reduce (1988 becomes 1 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 26, then 2 + 6 = 8).
  4. Add the three results and reduce to a single digit — unless you land on 11, 22 or 33, which you keep.

The calculator above does all of this for you in the correct order, master numbers included.

Life Path number FAQ

Is my Life Path number based on my name or my birthday?

Only your date of birth. Other numerology numbers — like your Soul Urge and Expression numbers — come from your name, but the Life Path is purely your birth date.

What are master numbers 11, 22 and 33?

When the maths lands on 11, 22 or 33 before the final reduction, numerology keeps it rather than reducing to 2, 4 or 6. These are considered heightened, more demanding versions of those numbers, so the calculator preserves them.

Does my Life Path number ever change?

No. It is fixed by your birth date, so it stays the same your whole life. That is part of why it is treated as the foundation of a numerology chart.

Is numerology real?

We are honest about this: numerology is offered for reflection, not as science. Gennie pairs it with the real, documented history of the generation you grew up in, so the read lands as a mirror rather than a measurement. Take the parts that resonate and leave the rest.
