Privacy & Cookies

This notice explains how Nellie Connect Ltd (“Gennie”, “we”, “us”) handles your information across the Gennie app (my.gennie.life) and this marketing site (gennie.life). We are the data controller: a company registered in England & Wales, company number 17029298, registered office 167-169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London, United Kingdom, W1W 5PF.
The short version
- We don’t store your birth details or your reading. They are used once to create your read, then discarded.
- The only personal details we keep are your email address (if you choose to give one) and a record of any purchase.
- We never sell your data and never use it for advertising.
- Your reading is generated by AI (Anthropic’s Claude), which does not use it to train its models.
Your reading (name, date of birth, gender and any extras)
To create your read, the app sends the details you enter — your name, date of birth and gender, plus any optional “Tell Gennie more” extras (such as a goal, a partner’s or children’s details, work or finance notes, or life events) — to our AI provider, Anthropic, purely to generate the read and the Coach responses.
These details are processed transiently: neither the read nor the details behind it are written to our servers. Your reading is assembled in your browser, and any PDF is built on your device. In other words, we do not keep your birth details or your reading after your session. If you ask us to email your report, the reading is sent once through our email provider (Resend) to your inbox, and is still not stored by us.
What we do store
The only personal data we retain sits in two email-keyed stores on our hosting platform (Netlify Blobs):
- Marketing list — if you opt in, we store your email address, your consent, where you signed up, and timestamps, so we can send you updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Purchase records — if you buy the £4.99 unlock, we store your email address, the Stripe checkout reference, the date of payment, and a device count, so you can restore your unlock on up to two devices and so we can meet our accounting obligations.
Buying the unlock does not create an account. Your unlock is remembered by a signed cookie on your device, backed by the purchase record above.
Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe through its hosted checkout. Your card details and payment email go directly to Stripe; Gennie never sees or stores your card data.
Who processes your data
We share data only with the service providers needed to run Gennie. Each acts under contract and only on our instructions:
- Anthropic (Claude / “Haiku”) — generates your read and Coach replies. Sees your birth details and any extras, transiently. Anthropic does not use commercial-API data to train its models and retains it only briefly for trust-and-safety purposes. See Anthropic’s Privacy Policy and Trust Center.
- Netlify — hosting, serverless functions and the storage (Blobs) that holds email and purchase records.
- Stripe — payment processing (card data and payment email).
- Cloudflare — Turnstile bot-protection, which checks IP and browser signals to block abuse.
- Plausible Analytics (EU) — privacy-first, cookieless website analytics. It sets no cookies and collects no personal data (no name, email or cross-site identifier); figures are aggregate only. See Plausible’s data policy.
- Resend — sends our transactional emails (your report, if you ask us to email it, and purchase confirmations). It processes the email in transit to deliver it to your inbox; the report itself is not stored.
- Google Fonts and unpkg — deliver fonts and the 3D-graphics library for the site; they may receive your IP address as part of serving those files.
Cookies & local storage
Strictly necessary (always on, needed for the service to work):
- gennie_pass — a short-lived security/anti-abuse session (about 8 hours, HttpOnly).
- gennie_unlock — remembers that you’ve purchased the unlock (about 365 days).
- Cloudflare Turnstile — bot-protection.
Analytics — cookieless, so there is nothing to consent to:
- We use Plausible Analytics, which measures overall site usage without any cookies and without collecting personal data. There is no analytics cookie to accept or decline, so we no longer show a cookie banner.
We also use your browser’s local storage to keep your saved profile and paid flag on your device. This stays on your device and is never sent to us. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Lawful bases
- Creating your free read — providing the service you asked for (and your consent to process the details you enter).
- The paid unlock — performance of a contract.
- Marketing emails — your consent (you tick a box).
- Analytics — our legitimate interest in understanding overall site usage (cookieless, aggregate, no personal data, so no consent is required).
- Anti-abuse (Turnstile, rate-limiting) — our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure.
- Keeping purchase records — our legal obligation to retain accounting records.
International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside the UK/EEA — for example Anthropic and Stripe process in the United States. Where they do, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Birth details and your reading — not stored; discarded after your session.
- Email on the marketing list — until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
- Purchase records — up to 6 years to meet UK accounting and tax requirements.
- Analytics — aggregate, cookieless statistics retained per Plausible’s settings; no personal data.
- Server logs — our functions log only error messages, never your details. Netlify may log request IPs at the infrastructure level for a short period as a normal part of serving the service.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, or port it, and you can withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email accounts@nellieconnect.com. We aim to respond within one month. Because we don’t store your birth details, most requests will concern your email or purchase record.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Age
Gennie is for ages 13 and over. Under-18s can use the free reading, but we do not take payment from, or send marketing to, anyone under 18, and their reading avoids adult content. If you are under 13, please don’t use Gennie. Any details you add about other people, including children’s ages, are used only to shape your reading and are not stored.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above.
